D-BOX and ECCO Cine Supply and Service GmbH move Turkey as Mars Cinema Group integrates the innovative high-fidelity motion system

June 29th, 2016 – ECCO Cine Supply and Service GmbH, a leading supplier and integrator of innovative cinema solutions, has reached an agreement with Mars Cinema Group (a Turkish cinema circuit) to install and service D-BOX Technologies Inc cinematic motion systems in two multiplex theatres in Istanbul.

Under the agreement, ECCO will deliver a total of 80 D-BOX motion seats to Cinemaximum Akbati, located in the up-and-coming North-East neighbourhood of Instanbul, and Cinemaximum Akasya, situated in the university district on the Asian side.

The order consists of two technologically innovative D-BOX solutions: The first is the D-BOX MFX 132-EU motion seat which was specially created to suit the needs of European consumers with the help of Euro Seating, an internationally renowned company. Equipped with a modern shell, the seat offers both an intrinsic value and the durability required for sustained usage in a commercial environment. And the second part of the order is the D-BOX VIP Recliner motion base which adapts to the recliner seat for extra comfort, generating a more intense experience in a personalized, reclined position. In fact, the leg and back positions are electronically adjustable for the ultimate in relaxation. What’s more, D-BOX utilizes elaborate electronics and wider surface movements to create even finer and more impulsive creative effects.

The installation is scheduled to be completed by the end of July in time for the national movie premiere of Bourne. Additional locations are scheduled to follow at the end of 2016. “We are proud to start our first project with Mars in D-BOX and help build on their reputation for being at the forefront of the latest innovative developments in immersive entertainment technologies,” said Markus Overath, International Sales Director at ECCO.

Claude McMaster, President and CEO of D-BOX Technologies added: “Istanbul embraces two continents which makes it the perfect location to introduce D-BOX to Turkey. In our eyes, this truly immersive city and its people will be very appreciative of the latest trends in cinema viewing experiences.”

“We are excited to implement D-BOX into our theatre concept for Cinemaximum. Over the past few years, we have continuously invested in technology trends to create new cinema experiences and we believe that D-BOX will be giving our patrons added value they will not want to miss,” concludes Kurt Rieder, CEO of Mars Cinema Group.

Germany gets world’s largest Christie® Vive Audio™ install in time for Star Wars

Germany gets world’s largest Christie® Vive Audio™ install in time for Star Wars

Mönchengladbach, Germany – (15 Dezember 2015) – Big, bigger, Cinecittà – Germany’s largest multiplex cinema in Nuremberg is getting the most powerful Christie Vive audio installation in the world, in time for the global opening of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ on December 17th. And it’s a fittingly futuristic setting and installation for one of the most awaited films of the year.

CINEMAGNUM, the former IMAX theatre, which houses Germany’s largest screen at 600m², plus a giant 30 tonne sliding dome screen, now has Christie® Vive-Audio ™ with Dolby Atmos. The domed auditorium is one of 22 auditoria screens, most of which are dug deep beneath the streets of old town. Planning, supply and installation was carried out by Christie partner ECCO Cine Supply and Services GmbH from Hilden near Dusseldorf (D).

The impressive Vive audio installation utilizes the complete Christie LA5 speaker series for stage,  surround and overhead speakers (LA5, LA5S, LA5C). Chris Connett, Market Development Manager for Christie Vive Audio in EMEA, explains: “Our 6″ ribbon driver technology, used in all of our LA5 series speakers, guarantees optimal coverage throughout the auditoria with perfect sound reproduction in each of the 524 seats.”

“Due to the size and volume of this auditorium, we had to overcome a number of design challenges,” Chris continues. “One was that the domed ceiling had to maintain its ability to move position while also ensuring the sound from our line arrays still gave excellent coverage to every seat. To get this right was a challenging experience, even after 16 years in cinema audio. Cinecittà had been looking for a solution for this unique theatre for quite some time. I am confident Vive Audio delivers in what has to be the most impressive Cinema in Europe.”

The Cinecittà complex, is not just known for its impressive underground architecture but for introducing new technologies. For example it was the first cinema in Germany which was completely THX-certified. And, regarding D-cinema, Nuremberg was also at the forefront: exactly ten years ago, the first digital cinema screenings were shown at Cinecittà for another Star Wars premiere, “Revenge of the Sith”.

With the ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, Wolfram Weber, owner and manager of the Cinecittà (who incidentally built himself an apartment on the top of the complex) has again employed the latest technology in order to offer an unrivalled cinematic experience: “We always try to offer our visitors something special. This means for us to show premium content on the highest technical level. Cinema has to reinvent itself again and again to stay in the race today in completion to the numerous entertainment offers out there. With Vive Audio in combination with Dolby Atmos the audience experiences the film in a way, you can’t experience at home – that’s only possible in cinema” concludes Weber.

Thomas Rüttgers, managing director of ECCO Cine Supply and Services GmbH, adds: “We are very pleased to be a partner within this reference project. Christie’s Vive system emphasizes the atmosphere of this unique theatre hall and revaluates the cinematic experience for each individual visitor again and again. ”

“Christie Vive Audio was designed to bring cinema audio quality in line with the advances we have seen in visual technology,” says Christie’s Chris Connett. “We’ve seen many cinemas across EMEA and globally gear up for Star Wars and look forward to our 350th Vive Audio system by the opening of Star Wars® Episode VII: The Force Awakens™ on December 17, 2015.

Marburg Cineplex impresses with next-generation sound

Mönchengladbach, Germany – (8th December 2015) Marburg Cineplex is Germany’s first cinema to opt for the innovative Vive Audio technology. “The younger public now want increasingly sophisticated technology and are extremely discerning, including in terms of sound. That is why Vive Audio was the obvious choice for us. In Screen 4 of our Cineplex, we always try to incorporate the latest technical developments and trends. That is why we have combined the new sound installation with a 4K dual projector,” explains Gerhard Closmann. In partnership with his daughter Marion, he is taking the cinema to the next generation.

The Cineplex in Marburg, Germany, has a history spanning more than 100 years. Formerly known as “Lichtspiele Marburg”, the Closmann family now operates under the names Capitol, Cineplex and Kammerlichtspiele, with 14 cinemas in three locations. In these cinemas, years of tradition meet state-of-the-art technology. With its 465 seats making it the largest in the multiplex, Screen 4 of the Cineplex now hosts a new Christie® Vive Audio™ sound system, installed to coincide with the James Bond premiere of “Spectre”.

Christie partner Ecco Cine Supply and Service GmbH from Hilden, Germany, was responsible for planning, delivering and installing the 7.1 surround sound system. The installation includes a CDA 5 amplifier and a LA4 line array speaker each for the left, centre and right. A CDA 7.5 amplifier and S215 subwoofer were used for the LFE channel. For side and back surround sound, they also installed CDA 5 amplifiers and LA4 speakers on the left and right.

The unique properties of the driver technology provide accurate sound replication, allowing the audience to hear all the sound effects wherever they are sitting, throughout the heart of the action. Thanks to their specialised construction, the speakers are particularly quick to react to signals. Noise interference is cancelled out.

The Cineplex cinema currently has seven screens and around 1,700 seats, and it forms the heart of the business. In 2015, it celebrated its 15-year anniversary. Since then, it has welcomed eight million visitors – a huge number for a town with just 80,000 inhabitants. In the mid-90s, the family-run business became the founding member of the Cineplex Group, a network of medium-sized cinema operators.

“We lay on a full programme, showing everything from the latest blockbusters to arthouse films and alternative content such as operas and ballets. We partner these with different events and special performances, which means we need technology that can work with a wide range of applications while providing great sound every time,” says Closmann.

The initial public reaction to the new sound system is promising. “We have only had the system for a short time, but we are more than happy with the results, and our most regular cinemagoers have commented on the great sound quality,” Mr Closmann is pleased to report.

He can easily imagine having another Christie Vive Audio system, but the next item on the agenda is to equip Screen 4 with Dolby Atmos. The existing system is already set up for this.
